Research has shown that there are features (including fast tempos, unusual intervals and common melodic shapes) that identify with an earworm song. Think: Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ – duh duh duh, duh duh da-da; or Kylie Minogue’s ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ – la la la, la la la-la-la.
