The Amplifon Centre for Research and Studies was founded in 1971 as a non-profit independent organisation for the dissemination of knowledge in the fields of audiology and otology.
From its earliest years the Centre for Reseach and Studies (CRS) has made a name for itself in the scientific community, focusing its efforts on scientific research, supporting the professional development of doctors and audiologists and organising training courses and conferences in conjunction with Italian and foreign universities.
The CRS works with an independent scientific committee of academics to draw up an annual programme of initiatives, as well as awarding prizes and scholarships.
Over the years, in collaboration with major European universities, the CRS has co-ordinated research projects funded by the European Commission such as AHEAD (Advancement of Hearing Assessment Methods and Devices) I and II, HEAR (Hereditary Deafness Epidemiology And Clinical Research) and GENDEAF (Genetic Deafness).
From 1971 to the present day, the Centre for Research and Studies (CRS) has hosted over 600 courses and conferences, 215 of these have been in just the last 12 years, averaging 100 to 150 participants per conference.

The CRS has instituted a number of awards in the field of scientific research. The most prestigious of these is the International CRS Prize, which goes to illustrious scholars for substantial contributions to human knowledge in the fields of audiology and of otology. Every year the CRS also assigns five A. Charles Holland scholarships to young doctors of all nationalities so that they can attend specialist training courses, awards three prizes for the best Italian specialist thesis in ENT or Audiology and Phoniatrics, and three prizes for the best Italian thesis in Speech Therapy.
The CRS holds one of the finest private libraries in the field of audiology and otorhinolaryngology, offering the sector's most important international journals. A free bibliographical research service is available to physicians, with abstracts and complete articles sent directly to applicants. The quarterly Index provides a review of the most significant works in the specialist literature and it's published on-line at the CRS website (www.crsamplifon.com).
